About the Annual AMP Communications Contest

The Alabama Media Professionals Communications Contest encourages and rewards excellence in communications in a wide range of print, broadcast, web, and collegiate categories. Entries are judged by leaders in their fields of expertise.

The contest is open to any professional communicator in Alabama—whether a member of AMP or not. It is an opportunity to get some statewide, and possibly national, recognition. You will also benefit from the judges' comments on your work.

All first-place entries may then compete in the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) Communications Contest. However, entrants must be members of AMP and NFPW to compete at the national level. AMP winners are honored at the annual Spring Awards Banquet, while NFPW contest winners are honored at the national organization’s annual communications conference, which is held in a different state each year.

Contest submissions are handled electronically, with exceptions for a few categories where an electronic entry may not be possible, such as books and publications edited by the entrant (such as an entire newspaper or magazine).

Submission deadline for the AMP is usually in early February. Eligible entries must have been published or broadcast in the previous calender year.

For more information, contact AMP contest director Elaine Hobson Miller or see the Communications Contest page on the NFPW website.
